If you confine yourself to Temple Bar, you are likely to miss out on much of what Dublin has to offer. Beautiful Georgian squares, traditional & modern pubs, great shopping and lots to see and do. The south-city is probably the best area for shops, pubs, tourist attractions etc. It includes Temple Bar but also Grafton Street, Georgian Merrion Square and Docks Area, Trinity College (Book of Kells), St Stephens Green and the Grand Canal.
There is a good range of hotels but they tend to be a bit expensive and finding accommodation at weekends or during during peak months can be difficult. To get good accommodation in a fairly good hotel, you should budget for about E60 to Euro 80 per person sharing if you are coming at the weekend. We have sub-divided hotels into various areas to help you. We've numbered each of the hotels so have a look at our map to see exactly where they are. Map of Dublin
The tourist quarter. Choc-a-bloc with bars, restaurants, shopping and accommodation this a lively spot and great location for exploring north and south city areas.
Famous shopping street area with plenty of bars and restaurants. Most hotels wont have parking in house but the use of paid car parking nearby. A great base for shopping, nightlife and sightseeing - but you'll pay a little extra for this.
Close to Grafton Street, this area is basically a square overlooking a wonderful park. St Stephens Green park is beautifully manicured, complete with ponds, fountains and band stand. A great place to sit and see. Within 5 mins walk of plenty of shopping, restaurants and bars. Again, most hotels won't have their own parking but the use of paid car parking nearby.
A little further out - typically a 10-15 walk to city centre - hotels based in this area are of great quality and in areas that have pubs and restaurants nearby. You'll often find good value here and some hotels will have parking on site (often for a fee).
